Efficiency standards for new oil boilers

Building regulations in England set a minimum efficiency for any new or replacement oil boiler. Under Approved Document L, a regular oil boiler must reach at least 91% efficiency (as defined in the ErP regulations). A lower figure is only allowed in exceptional circumstances in existing homes.

When a new or replacement oil boiler is fitted, building regulations guidance also says a carbon monoxide alarm should be provided in the same room.
